Fundraising is one of the key activities in which Family Care makes it possible to develop support services for our deaf members. There are many fundraising opportunities available to give financial support to our work, including donations, legacies, etc. We Campaign for the rights of deaf people which helps to raise public awareness of deaf.

:: Programs to develop leadership abilities in deaf women are underway. 10 deaf women are receiving training in communication skills, art of positive thinking and human relations in 2 cities of Tamilnadu. 10 Special Training classes for 5 deaf women were conducted covering various issues of womanhood and their role in the conservative Indian families, etiquette and behavior, marriage and motherhood. They have also put together a performing team.

: At the invitation of "Family India", 2 of the deaf leaders and 1 hearing Co-ordinator were invited to Delhi, the capital of India, in the month of April, for a Leadership Conference with 25 deaf and 10 hearing Co-ordinators and interpretors attending from 10 cities. Issues such as needed finances for ongoing projects and efficient fund-raising methods, establishing, unifying, and maintaining a steady leadership structure in all cities, proposals for regular National Leadership Seminar, In-house news reports and circulars, production of CDs and books, etc., were discussed at the 2-day Conference as this was the first of its kind.

:: The on-going training program for deaf youth continued through the quarter of April - June with 300 deaf people attending about 50 personality development & character building classes in 5 cities of Tamilnadu, Kerala and Karnataka. Classes including Power point slide shows, skits and stories were taught by the core group of leaders from Coimbatore who traveled to 5 cities twice a month. Once a month a representative from the core group of leaders in each city meet with the main teachers and leaders of Family Care in Coimbatore to chart out a plan for classes and other activities among the deaf groups and also to present a report of the happenings of each city and discuss any issues or obstacles and solutions as well.

:: Marriage counseling has been taking place extensively, zeroing in on a few married couples that are facing communication barriers and interpersonal relations in their marriages. Classes on communication and honesty and openness, tolerance, patience, etc., were conducted to help the couples to understand each other and try to walk arm in arm through the journey of life.

:: This month saw the beginning of a video project of Bible Scriptures on different categories such as love, faith, salvation, obedience, etc., in sign language for the deaf to enable them to have better understanding of Scriptural reference. Other classes are also being produced simultaneously with 15 of the deaf core leaders undergoing a structured course on the 12 pillars to success in life once a week.
